Postpone Mentality- causes and treatment

Everybody desires to have successful life. But we have to work hard sincerely, to get the fruits of success. Postponing mentality is more commonly seen especially in the students and also seen in the employees.

As per the William Nass, a psychologist, 90% of the students postpone the studying of the subjects as per the schedule. But during the examinations time, they work hard and got through the examinations.

Anyhow 14% leaves their education abruptly in the middle or satisfy with the low- paid works or jobs. 60-70% of the employees are also have this mentality of postponing their job works and due to this 10% of them are loosing their jobs.

Causes for postponement:

1. Laziness:

It is everybody’s enemy. Students don’t like to open the text books, but feel very happy to go to bed. Employees find it difficult to open the office-files, but feel happy to close it. This is ‘’easy – going’ type mentality and are of the strong opinion that nothing will happen to them, if they don’t do the work assigned to them in time.

2. Fear of failure:

They develop negative feeling before starting any job or work, thinking that they will meet with failure. It is more common with students before appearing for the exams and candidates attending the interview.

3. Giving excuses:

It is an instrument frequently used by the employees in the offices, without any valuable reason. A few of the employees indirectly demand money (illegally), even though he is getting salary regularly. One day he will be caught red –handed and have to loose the job.

4. Egoism:

He did not care o do other’s work with superior complex mentality or thinking that it can be done later on with slow pace.

5. Apathy:

Persons having this type of mentality take even serious things very lightly and are also of the opinion that somebody will do the work for him one day. They are very headstrong and bother about the job.

6. Spending the time in gossips:

These type persons are men of words but not deeds. They don’t show much interest in discharging their routine duties but show greater interest in others affairs. They don’t know the value of time.

7. Avoiding nature:

Somebody pretends as doing the work, but actually he is not doing. Actually he won’t do it in the near future also. This act is simply annoying others and also wasting others time and money.

Consequences or losses:

-Loss of confidence in himself (self-confidence).

-Family members and others treat you as lazy person.

-Students develop stress and strain while preparing for the exams.

-Nobody believes you.

-You show anger frequently with friends and other well-wishers.

-Sometimes one may lose job or incur loss in business.

Remedy:

1. Treat the postponement mentality as a disease or an enemy and away from it as early as possible.

2. Write down the works that are to be done on that day and try to do them on the same day.

3. Fill the mind with positive thoughts only, and have full confidence in your capabilities.

4. Take the help and guidance both from your family members and friends, if necessary.

5. Remember that you are not inferior to any body; you are unique in this world.

Remember this golden word always:

‘’Never postpone a thing till tomorrow, what can be done today, as tomorrow is not ours.’’
