Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, OCD, is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions). It is the common personality disorder.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Symptoms:
Intrusive thoughts that lead the patient to perform repetitive rituals that interfere with daily living
1. Obsession: Same thoughts occur repeatedly and more over they are meaningless thoughts, he could not prevent them from recurring. So the person is in obsession and he is fully involved in them.
2. Compulsion: Anything or work is being done repeatedly by him. It is called repletion.
The different types are as follows:
1. Obsession of contamination: Washing of hands, legs or taking bath number of times.
2. Obsession of doubt: The person locks the door. Then he repeatedly pulls the lock whether it is locked or not, before leaving the house, to clear his doubt.

4. Sexual obsessions: In these persons the sexual thoughts are totally perverted. They develop sexual desire on person they see. They cannot tell to others about these uncontrolling thoughts and feel guilty consciousness. They are always in troubled condition.
Mechanism of OCD: Serotonin plays a major role.
Age: Males and females are equally affected.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatment:
Treatment is aimed at symptom reduction. Complete remission of symptoms is rare.
Drugs: Serotonin reuptake inhibitors and Anti depressants.
Behavioral therapy may be useful.
